Cago launches CagoChat

Chicago - July 16, 2016

Cago launched their chat app CagoChat today. Chatting between mobile phones has been around for a while ...  except when you're on a plane or a ship or camping in the woods, where there is no cellular service or free WiFi and Internet connectivity. CagoChat takes advantage of WiFi Direct so you can talk the time away.

CagoChat is a fun iPhone chat app that does not require an Internet or Cellular connection to chat with another iPhone user nearby. Both chat partners need to have CagoChat installed and running, in order to discover each other. CagoChat works up to 100 feet without any cellular service or WiFi although the exact distance will depend on many conditions - indoor vs. outdoor, physical obstructions, weather - to name a few. Discover each other’s iPhones with the CagoChat app open, and send messages that disappear with a simple click of the home button. With service-free and data-free reliability, CagoChat makes short-distance messaging convenient and safe.

Privacy

As with other apps before, Cago cares deeply about your privacy.

You can keep your privacy intact by selecting a ‘Discovery Avatar’ from a set of pre-defined pics. This is how you will appear when a nearby iPhone user discovers you. You can also set a display name which will be visible to nearby iPhone users. Choose a more personal picture for your ‘Chat Display Pic’. This is how you will appear when you are chatting with a user on an iPhone nearby.

The chat session is not saved on either your iPhone or the remote user’s iPhone. As soon as you hit disconnect, or click on the iPhone’s home button, the chat disappears forever.

CagoChat is brought to you by Cago – a mobile, web, and software systems development company based in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

CagoMama updated with Security Alert feature

Chicago - January 5, 2016

With the proliferation of smartphones across all age groups, one common use of smartphones is for personal safety. This use case can apply whether you are facing an attacker or you are in the middle of a natural disaster - earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes.

CagoMama released with Security Alert feature.

Do you need to shout for help when in trouble? CagoMama now supports Alert feature. At the click of a button, CagoMama will communicate yoursafety to your Alert contacts.

To activate the Alert, press and hold Alert button for 5 seconds. The phone will vibrate to indicate that Alert is activated. In order to de-activate Alert, press and hold Alert button again for 5 seconds.

When the Alert is activated, CagoMama starts sending SMSs containing Alert message and the user’s location at configured interval to Alert contacts. The SMSs are sent till Alert is turned off, or the maximum configured number of Alert messages have been sent.

Important: In order to send Alerts in an emergency, the Alert feature has to be first turned on in settings.

Alert feature can also be turned off in settings.

Android vs. iPhone.

There are small differences in how the Alert features works on Android vs. iPhone. On Android, the SMSs containing Alert message and the user’s location are delivered automatically, for upto a maximum of 3 Alert contacts. The iPhone supports only 1 Alert contact. The Alert message is composed and the iPhone vibrates to prompt the user to click Send.

On Android, user has the option to activate Alert by pressing Power Button 5 times. This option can be enabled and disabled in Settings.

On iPhone, use is advised to stay on the Alert screen while the Alert is active. If for some reason, user exits the app, or the phone gets locked, a local notification will inform the user that Alert is active, and to go back to the Alert.

Reliable and Trustworthy.

The Alert feature on CagoMama is effortless to use, fast, secure, and efficient. It makes optimal use of your battery with on-demand location sharing. No processes run in the background on your phone, and your location is not tracked continually.

Data usage is minimal. Even if Internet connectivity is slow, or not present at all, CagoMama will find your location, and send it to trusted contacts. You can rest assured that Alerts will work reliably under all network conditions.

Worldwide support.

CagoMama is now available for use worldwide.  All local phone number formats are supported. Use it while traveling to share location back home with family, or with a local buddy.

Anyone going to the Philippines?

Chicago - June 16, 2015

You should carry an umbrella – a big one! The monsoon season has arrived and it’s hot, humid, and wet. We just came back after two weeks of testing in Manila.

CagoMama now available for the Philippines

Our location sharing app CagoMama now supports Philippines. We tested extensively around Quezon City, Metro Manila. We carried from here a bunch of smartphones – both Android based phones and iPhones – and also used local Android phones and iPhones in our testing.

Location sharing works both within the country as well as across countries.

That’s right! One common use case is a US based business traveler (carrying a Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint smartphone) visiting Philippines and wanting to share his location back home with his family in US. Or they may want to share location with a local “Pinoy” buddy in Philippines who is on Globe Telecom, Smart Communcations or any other local network. Both test scenarios passed successfully ! Tests were done while driving along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, near Quiapo Church in Manila, and along Buendia Avenue in Makati City. Many more test cases were executed while driving around Metro Manila, which can be quite adventurous and taxing due to heavy traffic! We even tested at Beijing International Airport while waiting (6 hours) for a connecting flight.

Location sharing … just between you and them.

CagoMama shares your current location with a “trusted” contact that you configure inside the app – often it's a friend or a family member. The Android version has a unique capability for your location to be queried by a contact in your trusted list - by giving you a “missed call”. This capability is not available in the iPhone version.

In both Android and iPhone, you can choose one or more "trusted" contacts and yourself send your location to them. You have the option to add a brief message. CagoMama sends your location to the trusted contact in an SMS.

We do not store your personal information, including location. You can rest assured that your private information is not being sold to third-parties.

Our focus is on ease of use, location accuracy, and conserving battery power. The phone’s location is not tracked on a continual basis. It’s only obtained as you need it, when you need it, on-demand.

To keep the app kid friendly, we have kept CagoMama free of advertisements.
